This cartoon is about the Purchase of Alaska. It shows that William Seward and Andrew Johnson are wheeling a a big block of ice labeled Russian America. The cartoonist's message on this issue is that Alaska was just a big block of ice and useless. Which was later disproven when America discovered gold, timber, oil there. At that time people had negative opinions about the purchase because it cost $7 million. They called Alaska "Seward's Icebox" and "Seward's Folly" because William Seward had set up the purchase from Russia. One of the techniques the cartoonist used was labeling because the wheelbarrow is labeled treaty. Another technique uses by the cartoonist was symbolism because Alaska is so small and in real life Alaska is huge.Yes this cartoon does support my position on imperialism because this cartoon shows the purchase negatively and I agree. You can't extend too much at once or you won't be able to protect the whole empire.
