Panama Canal 1
This political cartoon is about the Panama Canal. I know because it says the Panama Canal in the background. The cartoonist's message on this issue is that Teddy Roosevelt had gone to many extremes to make the Panama Canal happen. Many extremes that were unconstitutional like when Columbia didn't want to give US the Isthmus of Panama, Roosevelt went to Panama and convinced them to start a revolution against Columbia. Some opinions in the US were positive because they thought of this as a way to protect America's Pacific empire. Their were other opinions in the US that were negative toward the issue like going behind Columbia's back and convincing Panama to start a revolution was unconstitutional. One of the techniques the cartoonist used was exaggeration because I don't think President roosevelt was really that tall. Another technique used was labeling because the land behind Roosevelt is labeled Panama Canal. No this cartoon does not support my opinion on imperialism because this cartoon is showing that going behind Columbia's back and convincing Panama to start a revolution was unconstitutional. granted that Columbia shouldn't be ruling Panama in the first place but they were so America should have backed off.
